Travelling into Quebec the temperature gauge in the car hit double figures…omg π₯³….but there was still plenty of snow and ice around. We came to the conclusion that it gets so cold in winter, and they have so much snow, it takes 2+ months of temperatures above 0 to get rid of it all. We visited a waterfall where you could look down into the small lake below. The ice was a good 20ft thick still (see photos) and they didn’t open some of the park until 31st July (and probably closed it on 30th September)!!
Quebec as a province is basically northern France, so think long tree lined roads, a flatter landscape, farming and french style small towns. Quebec City is very french catholic π«π·. The old walled city and Parliament area is Paris, and the rest is a.n.other french city (high rise centre with low rise apartment blocks). Everybody is bilingual so whilst English is not used if they can avoid it – not even as a translation on signs and such – they will happily switch to it when they realise you are an English (or American or Canadian) moron who’s only french is Je ne parle pas francais, desolee π. In and around the city was a lovely place to be for a couple of days, albeit a little busy after our previous few days. Need to get used to lots of people again!
Having left Quebec City we are now in Montreal. Less overtly french, although still in Quebec province. Ice Hockey tonight π. We are hoping for fighting, blood and a good atmosphere. Obviously we won’t be able to see the puck so we’ll be a few seconds behind the rest of the crowd π.
