We completed our whistle stop tour of downtown Toronto with more historic buildings, more walking about, the aquarium and the art museum. Oddly, the main exhibit was photos Paul McCartney took in 1963/64 of the Beatles and all that was around them. One of the museum guides twigged we were British and almost had a melt down when we said I (Si) had been to The Cavern and mum was in the film A Hard Days night ๐.
We moved on to Niagara and have been here a couple of days now. The best description is spectacular and beautiful, but touristy. The falls, the rapids, the whirlpools, the nature, the old power station, Niagara-on-the-lake and all the history is fantastic. Awe inspiring. Public transport is also great so no car needed.
Unfortunately, the boats are not in the water due to the risk of what can only be described as icebergs floating down from lake Erie and going over the falls ๐ (we saw some at the bottom, and if they landed on your head you wouldn’t need to worry about swimming ashore!). However, we went under, behind and to the bottom of the horseshoe falls which is much the same โ, and frankly more interesting ๐.
Then there is the touristy bit. We had heard the Canadian side was less touristy than the American side….nope! On both sides it is like Blackpool on steroids/Atlantic City. Hotels, Casinos, over priced themed restaurants and lots of touristy attractions that have little or nothing to do with Niagara falls….the very definition of a tourist trap ๐.
Tomorrow first thing we cross to the USA, walking over Rainbow bridge. Fingers crossed ๐ค. If you never hear from me again, carry on without me, it’s been a pleasure ๐.
Au revoir Canada, for now.
