Having arrived at NYC we did what we have always said we would never do, and drove into Manhattan, in fact to W23rd street (right in the thick of it). We managed to avoid killing anybody, despite all cyclists appearing to have a death wish ๐ด. They have a proper NYC attitude….”I am allowed to…
Hola avid readers. As you may have gathered we got over the border without issue, it was a simple experience in the end. The only annoyance was that the joyous US immigration system now charges you $30 to enter the kingdom! It’s a fee to “complete the forms”, but of course they are being completed…
We completed our whistle stop tour of downtown Toronto with more historic buildings, more walking about, the aquarium and the art museum. Oddly, the main exhibit was photos Paul McCartney took in 1963/64 of the Beatles and all that was around them. One of the museum guides twigged we were British and almost had a…
Well it is fair to say we are no longer Ice Hockey virgins! We had the full Montreal Canadians experience. From the crowds and entertainment pre-game, to the build up, to the goals, to the fighting and the penalties……..and oh, the regular breaks that you don’t see on TV (they are mainly for the TV…
Travelling into Quebec the temperature gauge in the car hit double figures…omg ๐ฅณ….but there was still plenty of snow and ice around. We came to the conclusion that it gets so cold in winter, and they have so much snow, it takes 2+ months of temperatures above 0 to get rid of it all. We…
We have now crossed New Brunswick, staying in Moncton, Fredericton and Edmundston. We have visited a whole range of places in between. The best description for New Brunswick is “inoffensive wilderness”. It is quite different from Nova Scotia and Newfoundland in some ways (not as harsh and challenging), but still heavily forested with small towns…
Having now travelled around Nova Scotia the question arises…where exactly are we ๐ค? Due to the significant immigration from the UK, specifically Scotland and the West Country (fisherman), and France there is a real mixture. Road signs in English, French and Scottish Gaelic. Place names we would all recognise – Glasgow, Aberdeen, Inverness, Halifax, Oxford,…
Having crossed from NL to NS all I can say is that ferry is amazing. We have never been on a ferry so smart. The cabin was great and we slept well…then we got off! The weather was “somewhat challenging” again, another snow storm ๐จ. Si picked up the hire car and they “suggested” we…
We are sitting in coffee shop (shock) in Corner Brook, NL, as we type this, having spent further time in St John’s, then driven to Gander and then to here, around 750km but that doesn’t really matter as the wilderness is spectacular. It is generally snow covered (but not deep by their standards)…forests, frozen lakes,…
We’ve made it to Canada….and to St John’s, Newfoundland, or should that be Dublin? There appears to be more (genuinely) Irish bars/pubs and music in St John’s, per capita, than in Dublin. Turns out Newfoundland is in fact Ireland 2.0 ๐ฎ๐ช! Good fun ๐. Funny story…got to the airport in St John’s and one of…
